Creativity in the service of the Christian message

Every year, the exhibition showcases nativity scenes created in a variety of artistic styles, all united by a shared desire to depict the mystery of the Nativity.

Alongside the more traditional interpretations, there are works created using innovative techniques and unusual materials, a sign of creativity that knows how to renew itself without losing sight of the essential reference to the Gospel message.

Each work helps to bring to light the richness of Christian devotion and the power of art to draw men and women from every culture closer to the profound meaning of Christmas.

A meeting of peoples, cultures and traditions

One of the most significant aspects of ‘100 Nativity Scenes in the Vatican’ is the presence of works from numerous countries around the world. Through their nativity scenes, artists and craftspeople share not only their talent, but also the history, traditions and spirituality of the communities from which they come.

The exhibition thus becomes a place of encounter and dialogue, where the diversity of artistic expressions converges in a shared contemplation of the mystery of the Incarnation.

Applications are open until 30 September 2026 for the 9th edition of ‘100 Nativity Scenes in the Vatican’.

Anyone wishing to share their interpretation of the Nativity through art and creativity is invited to submit their work and contribute to this significant testimony of faith and culture.
